What is oral surgery?

Oral surgery includes procedures performed to treat the problems inside the mouth or jaw. They remove(extract) badly broken and/or wisdom teeth and treat minor to major surgical cases ranging from trauma to cancer of the jaw. At Dental Mansion our oral surgeons have specialized training and expertise to provide tailormade treatment and solutions for patients.

Who would need oral surgery?

Oral surgery is often necessary when you’re dealing with a jaw or teeth issue that requires more advanced, specialized care. Below are a few of the reasons why you would need oral surgery:

  • Tooth, mouth, and jaw problems
  • Impacted (tooth inside the bone) wisdom teeth
  • Broken or knocked-out teeth
  • Traumatic injuries
  • Cancer of the mouth
  • Unusual and multiple swellings

Extraction

Extracting a tooth is a necessary treatment choice when conservative treatments such as fillings, root canal treatment, and gum disease treatment can’t help in salvaging the tooth. Extraction is one of the most common oral surgery procedures.

Reason for tooth extraction

  • Extensive Decay
  • Trauma or injury
  • Wisdom teeth
  • For orthodontic treatment
  • To make space for permanent teeth to come in

Tooth extraction is the removal of teeth from the mouth. Extraction is usually performed by a dentist or oral surgeon. The area is numbed around the tooth that is being extracted with local anaesthesia. The type of procedure differs in each case because of the variety of reasons to extract teeth. From trauma, road accidents fall or jaw fracture, cancer of the lip, mouth, tongue the reasons are nearly endless.

Getting an orthodontic treatment to straightening the teeth may also need an extraction along with braces/clear aligners.

An extraction along with orthodontic treatment is also needed in children with cleft lip and palatte. These kids are more prone to cavities, extra, malformed, or displaced teeth.

Disimpaction- Third molar surgery

Disimpaction is the third molar surgery that involves the removal of a wisdom tooth. Most wisdom tooth impaction is the result of crowding and an improper eruption pattern. They can cause pain, infection, and swelling of the local tissues. This is called impaction and it often necessitates the removal of the third molar or wisdom tooth.

Wisdom tooth extraction can be done via non-surgical methods, the wisdom tooth that is difficult to remove requires surgical methods.

Surgical removal of impacted wisdom teeth is done through an incision in the soft tissues of the mouth. Local anaesthetic is given by injection to numb the tooth and surrounding area. The dentist then removes the teeth in a single visit. After surgery, you’ll need a little bit of time to recover. Most people recover from third molar surgery/ wisdom tooth surgery in three to four days.

If you have a tooth that is so damaged that it may have to be extracted, why delay getting the care you need? At Dental Mansion, we provide top-quality service every time.
